Phone numbers

A phone number connects your agent to the real world. Numbers can receive calls (customers call you) and place calls (your agent calls them). HeyMello provides local numbers for the UK (+44), India (+91), and many other countries — anywhere your telephony provider offers coverage.

Getting a number

You can add a number to your workspace in two ways:

  1. Buy and assign in one step — pick a number and assign it directly to an agent. Credits are deducted and a monthly subscription is created.
  2. Buy into your pool — purchase a number now and assign it to an agent later.

Numbers are billed in credits, and current pricing is shown per country and currency (e.g. INR, GBP) before you buy. See Billing & credits.

Number types

Depending on the country, numbers can be:

  • Local — a standard geographic number.
  • Mobile — a mobile-format number.
  • Toll-free — free for the caller to dial.

Each number supports voice, and some also support SMS. The dashboard shows each number’s capabilities before you buy.

Assigning a number to an agent

Once you own a number, assign it to an agent:

  • Assigning a number to an agent automatically sets up inbound routing — calls to that number are answered by the agent, no extra configuration needed.
  • The same number is used as the agent’s caller ID for outbound calls.
  • You can unlink a number from an agent to return it to your pool, then assign it elsewhere.

Number lifecycle

StatusMeaning
AvailableIn the pool, not yet owned by your org.
AssignedOwned by your org and attached to an agent.
UnassignedOwned by your org, ready to attach to an agent.
Cancelled / releasedSubscription ended; number returned.

Subscriptions & billing

Each purchased number has a monthly subscription. You can:

  • View your number subscriptions.
  • Cancel a subscription (stops future billing; you keep the number until it’s released).
  • Resume a cancelled subscription.

Regions

HeyMello works globally. We started with the UK and India, and numbers from both regions are fully supported. Numbers from any other country available through Twilio or another telephony provider can be provisioned the same way — the available list and pricing are shown in the dashboard.

Some countries require identity or address documentation before a number can be activated, in line with local telecom regulations. If a number needs verification, the dashboard will let you know.
