Getting Started

Quickstart

Launch your first HeyMello voice agent and place a test call in about five minutes. No coding required.

Before you begin: you’ll need a HeyMello account. If you don’t have one, sign up or ask your account team for access.

Step 1 — Create an agent

  1. Sign in to the HeyMello dashboard.
  2. Go to Agents → Create agent.
  3. Give your agent a name (e.g. “Front Desk Assistant”).
  4. Choose a starting template, or start from scratch.

Step 2 — Tell the agent what to do

In the agent’s instructions (prompt), describe its job in plain language. For example:

You are the front desk assistant for Bright Smile Dental.
Greet callers warmly, answer questions about our services and hours,
and help them book an appointment. Our hours are 9am–6pm, Monday to Saturday.
If a caller wants something you can't help with, offer to take a message.
Keep replies short and friendly.

Tips:

  • Write the way you’d brief a new receptionist.
  • Be specific about tone, what to do, and what not to do.
  • You can refine this any time — changes take effect on the next call.

Step 3 — Pick a voice and language

  1. Open the Voice settings.
  2. Choose a voice you like (browse and preview options).
  3. Set the primary language — 30+ languages are available (English, Hindi, Spanish, French, Arabic, Japanese, and more).

See Voices & languages for the full list and guidance.

Step 4 — Test your agent

Before going live, try a conversation:

  1. Open the Test panel on the agent.
  2. Start a test call and talk to your agent.
  3. Adjust the instructions and voice until it feels right.

Step 5 — Connect a phone number

To take real calls, attach a phone number:

  1. Go to Phone numbers.
  2. Get a new number (UK, India, or another country) or connect an existing one.
  3. Assign the number to your agent for inbound calls.

Your agent will now answer every call to that number.

Step 6 — Make an outbound call (optional)

Want your agent to call out?

  1. On the agent, choose Place a call.
  2. Enter the destination number.
  3. Start the call and listen in.

To call many contacts at once, see Campaigns.
