Building Agents
Create an agent
An agent is your AI voice worker. This page walks through everything you can configure when creating or editing one.
Creating an agent
- Go to Agents → Create agent in the dashboard.
- Fill in the basics (name, language, voice).
- Write the agent’s instructions (see Prompts & behavior).
- Optionally add a knowledge base, tools, and a phone number.
- Save. Your agent is live and ready to test.
Agent settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | Internal name for the agent (unique in your workspace). |
| Display name | Friendly name shown in the dashboard. |
| Description | A short note about what this agent is for. |
| Instructions (prompt) | The agent’s job description — role, tone, goals, and rules. Your most important setting. |
| Voice | How the agent sounds. See Voices & languages. |
| Language | The primary language the agent speaks (e.g. English). |
| Call direction | Whether this agent handles inbound, outbound, or both. |
| Industry & use case | Categorize the agent (e.g. Healthcare → Appointment booking). Helps tailor defaults and analytics. |
| Phone number | The number assigned to the agent for making and receiving calls. |
| Creativity (temperature) | How varied the agent’s wording is. Lower = more consistent and predictable; higher = more varied. Default is balanced. |
| Knowledge base | Documents the agent can reference during calls. See Knowledge base. |
| Tools | Actions the agent can take mid-call, like booking appointments. See Tools & functions. |
| Post-call analysis | What the agent extracts and summarizes after each call. See Post-call analysis. |
Version history
Every meaningful change to an agent is saved automatically as a version. This means you can:
- View the full change history of an agent.
- Inspect any past version to see exactly how it was configured.
- Restore a previous version — either just the instructions/prompt, or the entire configuration.
This makes it safe to experiment: if a change makes your agent worse, roll back in one click.
Managing agents
- List agents — see all active agents in your workspace.
- Edit — update any setting at any time; changes apply to the next call.
- Delete — removing an agent also releases its assigned phone number back to your pool.
Best practices
- Start narrow. Give each agent one clear job rather than many.
- Name clearly. Use names like “Inbound Reception” or “Renewal Follow-ups” so your team knows what each does.
- Test before you connect a number. Use the test panel first.
- Iterate with versions. Make one change at a time and compare results.
